Principle of Manual Chain Hoist with Safety Guards
Manual chain hoist are among the most cost-effective material handling equipment because of their hand operation, simple structure, low cost, extensive application, and so on. These chain blocks are used to install machines or transport items over short distances in industries such as factories, mines, building sites, docks, shipyards, and warehouses.
Chain hoists/chain blocks are preferred when handling items in the open air or when the power supply is limited. Also, these hoists are used to raise and carry automobiles when paired with monorail trains, manual single-girder overhead cranes, and suspension cranes.
Working Principle of Manual Chain Hoist
Pull the chain clockwise, and then run the sprocket, pressing the ratchet wheel and brake base as a body to spin together, long axis rotating teeth gear, short axis, and spline hole gear. Thus, the lifting sprocket on the spline hole gear will drive the lifting chain, allowing the products to be lifted stably.
Lifting goods down, anticlockwise pulling the chain, the brake base will separate from the brake pad, the ratchet wheel will stop under the effect of the ratchet pawl, five long shaft lifting sprocket driven gear in the opposite direction, and the products will be lifted stably.
The chain block uses a ratchet friction chip one-way brake, which may brake under pressure. The ratchet pawl meshes with the ratchet wheel under the influence of a spring, allowing the brake to function safely.
When Should You Use a Manual Chain Hoist?
Hand chain hoists have several applications in the workplace and at home. They may be found on building sites, shops, and warehouses for loading and unloading items, as well as at automobile service stations and other applications requiring precision lifting, such as auto shops where engines are lifted off vehicles or parts are installed.
You would use a manual chain hoist to raise vertical weights that move higher in the air than a lever hoist. The lever hoist must also be used near you, but the hand chain hoist may be used from where you are on the ground, even when the hoist is high up. It can also raise heavier loads than a lever hoist utilising mechanical advantage and requires less space to operate.
If you need to carry a load from one location to another, you may link the chain hoist to a beam, a secure anchor with a shackle, or a trolley as a moving hoist.
The Role of Safety Guards in the Manual Chain Hoist
Chain hoists can cause some problems if not used correctly. You should use safety guards to protect your chain hoists and their operators from any injuries. Here are some safety guards you can use:
- Chain guard
- Lower hook guard
- Upper hook guard
- Load limit indicator
Safety guards can help prevent any risk of cuts and other accidents. These guards also protect the hoist and load from any damage. Many Manual Chain Hoist Manufacturers in India like Bemco Pvt. Ltd. mandate the use of these safety guards.
